Norma Campbell, 84, of Elmcroft of Xenia passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at Kettering Hospital.
She was born in Jeffersonville, Ohio to Ernest Maxwell and Nora Irene Maxwell Wolak. She was a native daughter of Ohio and lived most of her life in Xenia. Later in life, she headed south for the warmer climate of Arizona before ultimately finding her way back home. She was a strong woman who could stand her own ground: from her rough and tumble elementary days of fighting with boys who made the mistake of picking on her, to navigating the disaster of a town hit by a tornado, to the sudden death of a husband. She was the backbone of our rowdy family and always had the best advice and wisdom even if we weren't ready to hear it.
She worked at Xenia Municipal Court for decades and was named, American Business Women (ABWA) in 1984. In her retirement, she was able to travel around the world, something she enjoyed with passion and brought her much happiness. She was always yearning to wander and explore - not quite ready to accept her age until the very end. She lived life on her terms, defiant at times, but we wouldn't have wanted her any other way. She surrounded herself with amazing, lifelong friends and family throughout the years and was loved and cherished by many. She was classy but not afraid to tell you what she thought. She loved hard and if you were lucky enough to be one she loved, you never doubted it. When she smiled, her amazing hazel eyes would magically sparkle back at you.
She was a one-of-a-kind Mom, Grams, and friend. We will miss her every single day and while our world will be dimmer without her in it, we think she's having a big party (or maybe golfing) in Heaven.
She is survived by her children: daughter, Linda (Tim) Paxton, son, Gary (Kelly) Wallace, daughter Kimberly (Terry) Burris, her grandchildren: Chris (Christine) Paxton, Amie (Scott) Throndson, Tiffany (Todd) Hutchins, Justin (Jennifer) Wallace, Brian (Brittany) Burris, Mandy (Eric) Barnett, and her great-grandchildren: Christian, Loghan, Caleb, Elizabeth, Raquel, Sela, William, Isaac, Joshua, James, Braxton, Beckham, Chelsea, Chasidy, Caleb, Evan, Riley, Parker, Dillon, and Haley.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest Maxwell, Nora Irene Wolak and Step-Father Joe Wolak, husbands Glen Sheridan and Henry Campbell, her sister and brother-in-law Sandra and John Ward, nephew Rick Ward as well as numerous cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at New Burlington Community Church ( 2938 Cemetery Road, Xenia, Ohio 45385) at 11:30am.
Norma will be laid to rest at Grandview Cemetery in Chillicothe, Ohio.
