On June 29, 2023, the world lost an amazing man when retired Master Sargent and entrepreneur Jimmie Myzel Collins passed away at the age of 86. Jimmie's battle with serious medical issues in recent months showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile.
Jimmie was born on March 8, 1937 to William and Venessa Collins in Clarksville/Woodlawn, Tennessee.
After graduating Burt High School in Clarksville, Tennessee, Jimmie joined the United States Air Force at seventeen. He served in the military around the world including Guam, the Philippines, Vietnam, Turkey and England. After over twenty years of service to our country, Jimmie dedicated another twenty plus years of Civil Service at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
A true entrepreneur, Jimmie always had a business of some kind on the side. If you have known Jimmie from back in the day, chances are he fixed your car …sold you something through one of his network marketing ventures. …or helped you get out of debt and raise your credit score!
When Jimmie was not working, he was honing his skills as one of the best pool shooters around, out on a fishing boat or raising tomatoes. In retirement, his favorite thing to do was hang out with his best friends AKA The ROMEOs, Retired Old Men Eating Out … Edward Farrington, Jimmy "Stew" Stewart and Van Johnson.
But what Jimmie loved most was helping people and being of service to others. When asked how he wanted to be remembered, he smiled and replied. "I want to be remembered as a nice man who loved helping people." Well done, Jimmie. Well done. That is precisely how most of us remember you. You were a gift to the world.
Jimmie was a Charter Member of American Legion Post 776, a Past Potentate of Akbar Temple Post 41, a business counselor with SBA's SCORE, founding member of The Success Foundation and owner of JC Enterprises.
Jimmie is preceded in death by his parents, William and Venessa Collins, brother Gusta Collins and sister Dorothy Sweeney (Collins).
Left to cherish and honor Jimmie's memory is his "Sweetie" of 23 years, Cherlyn "Cher" Bell, son, Michael (Crystal) Collins, stepson, Andre Kelley, bonus daughter, Cqiana Bell, bonus son, Wayne (Stephanie) Bell, bonus future son-in-law, Linwood Harris, grandsons, Dakota and Kwaliem Collins, bonus granddaughters Ariana, Kiara and Sabrina Bell (or as "Papa" so affectionately called them, Sweetie Cakes, Sugar Pudding and Honeybunch), brothers Lewis (Barbara Gene) Collins, Bennie Collins, long-time friend/brother, Edward Farrington and a host of nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.
