Mitchell Willice Smedley, age 88 of Dayton, Ohio, passed away Monday, January 18, 2021 at Dayton V.A. Medical Center. He was born July 30, 1932 in Hazard, Kentucky to the late Bill and Belle Smedley.
Mitchell was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He served in U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a one-of-a-kind guy and one of the greatest men you would ever know. He was a huge sports fan including the Cincinnati Reds and a proud Kentucky Wildcats- he lived, breathed and died blue. He was a member of the American Legion Post #746. Mitchell liked to play poker, drink Budweiser and listen to country music.
In addition to his parents, Mitchell was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; son, Carl Smedley; son-in-law, Rick Sperzel; and brothers, Billy Ray Smedley and Tommy Smedley.
Mitchell will be missed by his loving children, Mitch (Sharon) Smedley, Larry (Tammy) Smedley, Sandra Horn (Dave Howard), Audrey Smedley, Marsha (Chad) Florence and Tony Smedley; 10 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 5-8 p.m. at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton. Funeral services will be private. Burial Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. The state of Ohio is under a mandatory mask order and has required that face masks be worn in all public places.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mitchell's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.
