Mitchell P. Lakes

Lakes, Mitchell P., age 63, born January 10, 1946 to Leona (Wilmoth) Lakes and Preston Lakes in Middletown, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Hospice of Dayton after a lengthy illness. Mitchell graduated from Franklin High School in 1964. He proudly served in the Marines from 1965-1968. After being injured in Vietnam, he was sent to Great Lakes Naval Base to recover. This is where he met his wife of 41 years, Ruth Uithoven. Mitchell retired from Harrison Radiator division of General Motors in 1999 after 35 years of service. Mitchell was an avid fisherman, he was a member of the Harrison Bass Club and the Twin Creek Bass Club, and was a frequent participant in the Bass Masters Tour for over 15 years. He also enjoyed singing with the Village Singers of Franklin for over 30 years. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, father, sister: Brenda, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friend: Vern Loman. He is survived by his wife: Ruth, daughters: Deanna Lakes Stewart, Tracy Lakes, Allison Lakes, granddaughter: Lauren Stewart, mother, sister: Judy (Don) Ballweg, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends from near and far. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, May 1, 2009 at Newcomer Funeral Home (South Chapel) 3940 Kettering Blvd, Kettering with Pastor Susan Thompson officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow the service at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Miamisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either Hospice of Dayton or to the family to help with medical expenses.
