Mitchell Burns, age 91 of Jamestown, Ohio passed away peacefully on July 28, 2021. He was born December 16, 1929 in Hyden, Kentucky son of the late Green and Sophie Burns.
Mitchell was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a Dayton Police officer that retired after 20 years of service. He went on to work an additional 20 years for the city of Dayton. He was a devoted member of the Jamestown Church of Christ. Mitchell was an avid hunter, enjoyed gardening, and was a naturalist. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Mitchell was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Emma Burns; also by his second wife, Edith Burns and her son, Larry Lowe; and daughter-in-law, Kay Burns.
Mitchell is survived by his children, Mike Burns, David Burns, Arlene Burns, and Linda ( Robert) Clark; step-daughter, Jill (John) Kennedy; 8 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 6, 2021 from 11am -1pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432). A graveside service will take place at 1:30pm at Valley View Memorial Gardens (170 North Valley Road, Xenia, Ohio 45385) with Senior Minister Steve Rich officiating.
