Mildred "Millie" Rosalie Penn, a cherished member of her community and beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024, at the age of 90 in Dayton, Ohio. Born on December 31, 1934, in Adams County, Ohio, Millie lived a life rich in love, dedication, and service to others.

Her mother died when she was 6 years old and her father died when she was 8 years old. That’s when she was adopted by Mary Etta and Everett Penn.

Millie's career as a hairdresser spanned an impressive 45 years, during which she built meaningful relationships with her clients in Wilmington and New Vienna. Her passion for creativity did not stop there; she also owned a craft store for five years, sharing her artistic talents with the community.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Millie's vibrant spirit shone through her many interests and hobbies. A devoted sports enthusiast, she was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds baseball team, Cincinnati Bengals football, and the Ohio State football. Her talents extended to the kitchen, where she was known for her exceptional cheesecakes that delighted family and friends alike. Millie had a passion for music as well, singing with the Sweet Adalines and sharing her love of song with those around her.

A dedicated mother, Millie showed unwavering support for her daughter, Anita Kitchen, and actively participated in various activities throughout her life. She embraced her roles as a leader, mentor, and cheerleader in her community. Millie was a cherished 4-H leader, a Girl Scout leader, and a softball coach. She served as the chair for the Vacation Bible School at the New Vienna United Methodist Church and was involved with TWIG, Eastern Star, and the Women’s Society. Additionally, she proudly held the position of President of the East Clinton Band Boosters and expertly organized the Chicken Barbeque event that kicked off the Clinton County Fair for 12 years. Her commitment to youth was evident as she served as the mother advisor for Rainbow, part of the Eastern Star, and opened her heart to 23 foster children that her daughter took in over a ten year span.

In 1995, Millie relocated to Huber Heights, where she continued her mission of service by volunteering for the DDS. Her legacy of kindness and dedication will forever resonate among all those whose lives she touched.

Millie is survived by her loving daughter, Anita (Brian) Kitchen; cherished grandchildren, Chad Barner and Jemma Frazier; niece Patti (Chris) Lynch; great-nieces Deanne (Cody) Kirkpatrick, Sarah (Ryan) Davis, and Amanda (Robert) Early; honorary grandson Logan Brooks; and great-great-nieces and nephews Cole Kirkpatrick, Camryn Davis, Tyler Davis, Parker Davis, Jackson Early, Dalton Early, and Weston Early. She leaves behind her beloved dogs, Zeke, Gabby, Misty Mae, and Chase, wonderful caregiver of 6 years, April Rowland; as well as many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Mary Etta Penn, who provided the foundation of love and strength that Millie carried with her throughout her life. She was also preceded in death by her dear friend, Tim Jones and John and Ken Lapenna whom Millie and Anita cared for.

Millie will be profoundly missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire and nurture the hearts of all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the FOA Foundation, PO Box 24335 Huber Heights, Ohio 45424.
