Mike Buehler

Mike Buehler,71, whose amateur radio call sign was N8XGA, passed away Dec. 14 at Kettering Medical Center where he was being treated for complications resulting from his diabetes. He was born August 1, 1951, in Dayton, the son of Lawrence and Margaret Presser Buehler. A 1969 graduate of Beavercreek High School he is survived by his wife, Nancy Krodel, KC8RMT; a stepdaughter Lynn Krodel of Bowling Green; a stepson Kevin Krodel of Michigan City, Indiana; two brothers, Bruce of Prattville, Alabama and Dave of Parkersburg, West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. A brother Craig, preceded him in death.

Mike was a dedicated volunteer in disaster preparedness and emergency communication, providing amateur radio support to many events such as the Holiday at Home parade, the Air Force Marathon, and the Beavercreek Resolution Run. He was well known for the bright highly visible outfits he wore to events. He started volunteering with the Dayton Red Cross in 1994 and continued for many years including instructing courses related to disaster response.

He served the Dayton Amateur Radio Association (DARA) in a variety of positions including as president from 2002 to 2004 when Hamvention returning to an all-volunteer staff. Mike was Hamvention golf cart committee chairman from 1998 until his hospitalization and received many positive comments on the service provided. Over the years Mike took on many other tasks for DARA including planning the annual summer picnic and the December holiday party.

Mike's other passion was roller skating which he enjoyed until his health forced him to stop. He had been a skating instructor in Dayton area rinks for many of those years.

A Celebration of Life for Mike is being planned for next summer.
