Michael Stephen Smith, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on June 22, 2024, at the age of 73. He was born on December 14, 1950, in Washington, North Carolina, and was most recently a resident of Riverside, Ohio.

Michael had a variety of hobbies that brought him joy throughout his life. He loved spending his time building model airplanes, exploring the world of computers, and enjoying peaceful fishing trips. He also had a deep appreciation for old western movies and TV shows, often finding delight in watching them. Above all, he cherished the moments spent with his grandsons, creating lasting memories with them.

When it came to food, Michael had a particular fondness for seafood, especially shrimp scampi. He also enjoyed Asian cuisine and had a taste for classical music, with bands like Mercy Me and Lauren Daigle being among his favorites.

A dedicated Master Sergeant in the USAF, Michael had a successful career and achieved many accomplishments. He was a man of integrity, responsibility, fortitude, and faith. His strong work ethic inspired his sons, Michael S. Smith II and Matthew S. Smith, to follow in his footsteps.

Michael was married to his loving wife, Loretta Smith, for 52 years. Together, they raised their children and built a beautiful life filled with love and support. Michael's children, grandchildren, and close family members will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.

In addition to his wife and children, Michael is preceded in death by his father, Armstead Leach Smith; his mother, Helen Ruth Moore; his brother, Chris Smith; and sister, Joanne Nettles; his Mother and Father in law, Dorothy and Roland Mock; and his grandchild Merrick Levy Smith. He is survived by his brothers, James and Ted Smith; his sister, Laurie Chatfield; and his grandchildren, Noah C. Smith, Matthew L Smith and Michael M. Smith.

Michael's impact on the lives of others was significant. His love of history was contagious, and it has been carried on by his adoring grandsons. He was a pillar of strength and taught his family the importance of hard work and perseverance.

Michael's favorite place in the world was wherever his family was, and his presence will be deeply missed. May he rest in peace, forever remembered for his kindness, integrity, and unwavering faith.

Visitation will be held from 1:00pm-2:00pm, on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, where Funeral Services will begin at 2:00pm.
