SKAPURA, Michael, age 84 of Dayton, OH, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at the VA Medical Center after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure. He was born on June 11, 1922, in Lore City, OH to John Skapura and Anna (Guzle) Skapura. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph, Nicholas, John, Andrew, and Steve; sisters, Ann Sieber, Mary Smith (his twin), Helen Papp, and Catherine Skapura. Michael is survived by his daughter, Karen Leannen of Round Lake, IN; brother, Victor Skapura of Lore City, OH, and brother-in-law, John Papp of Cleveland, OH. Michael is a WWII veteran who landed at Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944 with the 30th Infantry Division. He is also a veteran of 5 major WWII battles, including the Battle of the Bulge. He is a member of VFW Hein Post 2529, Sandusky, OH, American Legion Post 613, Dayton, OH, and DAV Post 140, Vandalia, OH. He retired from maritime service in Chicago area in 1981. Funeral services will be 9:30am Friday, June 8, 2007 at St. Paul the Apostle Orthodox Church, 4451 Wagner Rd., Dayton with Father Ted Bobosh officiating. Viewing will be 1/2 hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors to follow at the Dayton National Cemetery. An expression of thanks goes to Drs.
