Michael Rhea Phillips, age 64 of Harrison Township, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2018. Michael was born in Dayton to proud parents Rhea and Sarah Phillips. Michael graduated from Northridge High School in 1972. After completing his education, Mike, or "Hippy" as he was affectionately known, went on to work for General Motors. Mike was the Union Rep for IUE Local 801. He was very proud of his union service and stayed active until his retirement in 2002. Mike spent 30 years of loyal and dedicated service to the General Motors Company.
Michael married the love of his life, Brenda Ann Slaughter in 1984. The two have shared many happy years together. In his free time, Mike enjoyed reading and studying history. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to spend his time outside and traveling to new places. Michael was a kind, caring, and generous man who could always be counted on to help a friend in need or lend a hand to someone. He was a dedicated family man and took great pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandson. Mike was a compassionate and loving husband, father, son, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Michael was preceded in death by his father Rhea Phillips.
Michael leaves to cherish his memory, loving wife of 34 years, Brenda A. Phillips; children, Marcus (Shelly) Phillips, Ciann Phillips, and Kristy Ellingsworth; mother, Sarah Phillips; brother, Randy (Jeannie) Phillips; grandchildren, Damon, Allison, Kendall, and Logan; great-grandson, August Rhea; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A Celebration of Michael's Life will be held at Newcomer North Chapel on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 4pm. Family will greet friends and loved ones for two hours prior (2pm-4pm).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael's memory to Hospice of Dayton.
