Michael Paul Hogan

July 6, 1918 — March 8, 2013

Hogan, Michael Paul, decorated career Army Veteran, passed away on March 8, 2013. Mike was born in New York City to Michael & Selma Hogan on July 6, 1918.

A talented baseball player, Mike pitched for the Dover team in the Eastern Shore League before being called up to the Baltimore Orioles in 1940. Uncle Sam came calling at the same time and Mike ended up in the 187 Paratrooper Regiment. During that time he made more than 30 jumps behind enemy lines and earned the nickname "Iron Mike". One of his more colorful exploits came when he "commandeered" a Korean railroad train to move a vattalion 25 miles through the mountains earning him the title of "Rail Road President". Retiring from the Army as a Major, he continued working at Wright Patterson Air Force Base as an Army/Air Force Liaison officer. Eventually he left for a life of dog walking, golf, playing poker with his buddies and an evening cigar on the patio.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother: Freddie. His ready smile and soft spot for the underdog will be greatly missed by his wife of 70 years: Margaret, his daughters: Pat Whitaker (Dick) of St. Louis, MO, Kathy Barnett (Stuart) of Chicago, IL, Eileen Krynzel of Centerville, Maureen Poe (Craig) of Atlanta, GA and Debby DeLashmet (Bart) of Jackson, MS. Pop Pop will also be missed by grandchildren: Christine, Jeffery, Drew, Jonathan, Bobby, Todd, Keith, Courtney, Adam, Kurt and Mike and numerous great grandchildren. Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements in care of Newcomer Funeral Home – South Chapel. As Mike would say, "Old soldiers never die, they just fade away."
