Michael E. Kalb

Kalb, Michael E., age 42, of Dayton, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at his home surrounded by family and friends. He graduated from Waverly High School in 1985 and went on to serve in the US Air Force for 9 years. Michael retired as a firefighter and paramedic from the Dayton Fire Department after 9 years of service due to his illness. He is a member of the Dayton Firefighters Local 136 and he worked on the First Platoon at Company 17 (The Dragon Slayers). He also served with the West Carrollton Fire Department and as a Captain with Bethel, Miami Fire Department. Michael was also certified as a fire inspector, was an Eagle Scout and his daughter's Girl Scout Leader, and was his son's soccer and basketball coach. He was an active member of Landmark Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill & Eileen Ward and Willard Elliott. Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Carol (Watters) Kalb; children, Erica Shea and Joshua Michael Kalb, both of Dayton; parents, Eileen and Marty Slaughter of Londonderry, OH and birth father, Earl Kalb of Portsmouth, OH; sister, Michele Reed of Portsmouth, OH, mother and father-in-law, Jerry and Pat Watters of Chillicothe, OH; sister and brother-in-law, Cheri (Scott) Hamilton of Oxford, Alabama and Coyt (Linda) Watters of Grove City, OH; grandmother, Clarabelle Elliott of Chillicothe, OH; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. The family would like to thank Hospice of Dayton, Children's Medical Center, Landmark Baptist Church, and his brothers and sisters of the local Fire Departments for their love, their prayers, and their continued support. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Landmark Baptist Church, 4242 Needmore Rd., Dayton, Ohio. Graveside services will follow at Grandview Cemetery, Chillicothe, OH. The family will receive friends at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, Ohio on Friday from 4-8 PM.
