Michael Edward "Pops" Chandler, age 71 of Dayton, passed away Friday, January 25, 2019 at Miami Valley Hospital. He was born July 14, 1947 to the late Charles and Aline Chandler.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brother, Perry Chandler.
Michael is survived by children, Melissa C. Gunn and Travis M. Chandler; grandchildren, Ben and Max and siblings, VirginiaMain and Mark Chandler as well as other extended family and many friends.
Mike as a graduate of Trotwood Madison High School and studied surveying classes at Sinclair Community College. He honorably served the US Army as surveyor during Vietnam. Upon his return home, Mike bought a '69 Chevelle, got married and began employment with Dayton Tire Company. Mike left their employment when they closed and began his career in truck driving as a cement hauler for at least 3 local companies. After retirement, Mike dedicated the majority of his time to his family. Mike loved playing cards, frequenting casinos, was an avid reader and jigsaw worker and mostly enjoyed his free time. Mike will always be remembered as a community father, friend to all and for his excellent and rarely followed advice.
Family will receive guests from 9:00-11:00 am Wednesday, January 30, 2018 at Newcomer Funeral Home, Kettering. A service will immediately follow at 11:00 am also on Wednesday at the funeral home. Procession to Calvary Cemetery, Dayton for burial with military honors will conclude services.
