Michael Barr, age 74, of Dayton, passed away on January 2, 2022. He was born in Dayton, Ohio on October 10, 1947 to the late Mary Lou McGinnis and Esmond Allen Barr, "Jake".
He served his country by joining the United States Navy in 1968 and served during the Vietnam War. He retired from Ohio Bell at the age of 47 and started his own business in 1973, called Metal-Brite Polishing.
He enjoyed racing, hot rods, motorcycles, and anything on wheels. Above all else, he loved his family. He was a devoted husband and father, a loyal brother, and he loved being a grandfather. He enjoyed life and loved to have a good time. He never met a stranger and was always making a new friend wherever he went.
In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his second wife, Merry Lou Barr, his grandparents, Ben and Bernice Locke, and stepdaughter, Jennifer Flatt.
His memory will be cherished by his beloved wife of 10 years, Joy Barr; children: Chad (Rhonda) Barr, James Barr, Casey (Jackie Klein) Barr, and Joseph (Kim Pennington) Barr; grandchildren: Ryan, Gentry, Matthew, Mariah, and Michael; siblings: Debbie (Shawen) Moore, Tony (Pam) Barr, and Steven (Kim) Barr; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A visitation will be held from 3:00pm to 5:00pm on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, where the funeral service will begin at 5:00pm. He will be laid to rest at 10:00am on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Fairview Cemetery in West Alexandria. If anyone wishes to join the family for a drive to the cemetery, they will meeting at Metal-Brite Polishing, 2445 Neff Road, Dayton, OH 45414, at 8:30am on Thursday, January 13, 2022.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael's honor may be made to the Dayton Auto Racing Fan Club (DARF).
