Mervin L. Starks born to the late, David B. Starks, and Glenese Marie Starks on June 26, 1960, passed away on December 1st, 2021, surrounded by loving family members.
A man of service, Mervin served his country in the United States Army, following his tenure at Urbana College where he received a merit-based engineering scholarship. His military career birthed in him a love of travel, with a particular affinity for Italy. He continued his public service over the course of a 20-year career at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
Outgoing and adventurous, Mervin's jovial, fun-loving nature was evident to strangers and friends alike. His good nature and charm left many with precious memories, including his love of sports, cooking and travel. An avid sports lover, Mervin never wavered in his support of his three favorite teams: The Cincinnati Bengals, Cincinnati Reds and the Dayton Flyers. Cooking was one of his great pleasures, and his culinary skills ranged from the kitchen to the grill, where he would make signature dishes. During the final year of his life, he was particularly fond of enjoying Sunday dinners with his children, Juanita and Mervin. Beloved for both his cheery disposition as well as his intellect, Mervin navigated easily between jokes and political debates at family outings. Spending time with those close to him was the joy of his life, and he will be forever remembered as a loving father, brother and uncle to his nieces and nephews.
Left to cherish his memory are a host of friends and family including: his son, Mervin L. (Samantha) Starks II; daughter, Juanita Glenese Phaye (Brian) Evans; three sisters, Fredna J. Searcy, Rhonda F. McKinney, Delores Y. Jones, and three brothers: Larry C. Starks, David E. Starks, Gary A. Starks.
