Mervin E. Johnson, age 93, of Miami Township, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2010.
Mervin was born October 13, 1917 in Harrison, Ohio to the late Earl & Tansom Johnson.
He served in World War II from 1942-1945 in the Air Corps as a Tech Sgt, taking part in over two hundred hours of long range bombing missions and was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross, Four Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and Air Medal. Mervin retired from WPAFB, where he was an aircraft mechanic.
He was a long time member of the Memorial United Methodist Church, in West Carrollton.
He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Johnson; and brothers, Wayne and Jim Johnson.
Mervin is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marie Johnson; daughter, Debbie (Ron) Carmichael; son, Darrell (Sharon) Johnson; grandchildren, Melissa Johnson, Rhiannon and Zachary Carmichael; brothers, Mark, Joe, and Francis Johnson; sister, Virginia Coffman; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 4, 2011 from 10-11am at Newcomer Funeral Home South Chapel (3940 Kettering Blvd, Kettering, OH 45439). The service will follow at 11am, with Pastor Andy Wagner officiating. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery.
