Rip (Gary) VanWinkle, 70, of Dayton, passed away July 21, 2016. Rip was born in Georgetown, KY on November 30, 1945 to the late Ruffie Glendon and Allie VanWinkle. Rip was a very proud Vietnam War Veteran and was proud to serve for his country. He was a toolmaker for over 25yrs, a volunteer fire Chief and EMT for the New Burlington, OH Fire Department for over 20 years and his last 13 years he was a beloved member of the Hara Arena Family. He loved working and he loved to fix all things broken. But, most of all he loved "picking" and "grinning" which was a family tradition that he carried on for all of his life. To know Rip (Gary) was to love Rip. Rip (Gary) touched the lives of many people and he will be missed and cherished by all family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Rip was preceded in death by his brother Donald and wife Shirley May VanWinkle.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Donna VanWinkle, brother, Robert (Linda) VanWinkle of Kettering, OH; sisters, Shirley Lou (John) Spencer of Middletown, OH, and Margaret "Peggy" (Paul) Ramp of Seymour, IN; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 1, 2016 from 11:30am to 1:30pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road in Dayton. Interment will follow at Dayton National Cemetery.
