Melvin James Raker, age 82 of Centerville, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016 at Brighton Gardens under the care of Hospice of Dayton. His death came after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dorothy Raker. Mel was the proud father of Anthony Raker of Rockledge, FL and step-father of Ralph (Carol) Tatman of Greenfield, WI. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Heather, Brent, Douglas, Amy, Holly, and Jessica; and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his cherished step-daughter, Sharon Pauley of Dayton, OH and parents, Mary and Walter Raker.
Mel proudly served his country in the US Navy for three years on the USS Perry. After returning home from his service, Mel went to work at NCR where he retired after 37 years of loyal service as a systems analyst.
Mel volunteered his time at the Montgomery County Selective Service Board for 25 years. A private service for immediate family to take place at a later date.
