Melinda Jean Smith

Melinda Jean "Jeannie" Smith, age 72, of Dayton, passed away on April 27, 2021, at Hospice of Dayton with her loving family by her side. She was born in Virginia, on September 3, 1948, the daughter of the late Charles and Dorothy Ritter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her former husband, Tom Bailey.

Jeannie is survived by her beloved husband, Christopher Smith; her children, Charles (Kimberly) Bailey, Montel (Karen) Bailey, Shawn (Aletha) Bailey, Dorothy (Doug) Bailey and Suzy (Donnie) Bailey; 22 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; her dog, "Princess"; and many other loving family and friends.

Jeannie worked for 12 years for Kroger as a Cashier. She was a member of Spinning Road Baptist Church for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed collecting angels and loved to crochet. She had a kind heart and would help anyone in need. Jeannie was very dedicated to her husband, Chris, and her children. She will be dearly missed by everyone who loved her.

Visitation will be held from 11:00am-12:00pm, on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at Spinning Road Baptist Church, 538 Spinning Rd., Dayton, where services will begin at 12:00pm with Pastor Scott Goodman officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Dayton.

Donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
