Maynard Johnson

August 6, 1942 — August 4, 2013

Maynard Ernest (John) Johnson of Dayton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2013, from a GBM brain tumor. He was staying with his daughter Tammy in Wilmington, NC at the time. His brain tumor was discovered May 19th when he blacked out in a car accident while traveling to NC to aide his daughter with his ex-wife's progression of cancer. John was very courageous and never complained while undergoing treatment, keeping his sense of humor until the end. His daughter and girlfriend had the privilege of being at his side in his peaceful and painless transition.

John was born to Ernest and Margaret Johnson of McIntosh, MN. After graduating from McIntosh High School he joined the U.S. Air Force. He served in Germany, Okinawa, Taiwan, Labrador Canada, Texas, Nebraska, Arizona, South Carolina and Washington, D.C., refueling jets. Following his retirement as a Master Sergeant from the Air Force, John worked as a manager for various companies until he settled in Dayton, Ohio inspecting chemicals for the Defense Contract Management Agency. He worked there until his retirement. He then worked in Quality Control for iRobot Defense and Security.

His hobby and passion was cars. He loved buying cars, collecting model cars and going to NASCAR races. Even in his last days he rode his wheel chair around car dealerships and spoke with various salesmen.

Survivors include his girlfriend Terri Gibson and her daughters Tammy King and Michele Lotspaih and their children which he considered his own; ex-wives Carol Fox, Reva Johnson and Sue Malone; daughters Tammy Blackmon and Michelle Williams; sons Chad Perry and Travis Perry; four grandsons and a great grandson; three sisters Marian Vanderhoof, Rita Laughter and Pat Johnson-Perez; brother, Alan Johnson; an aunt, Alice Dyer; an uncle, Harvey & LaVine Johnson; also very special friends.
