Lawson, Maynard J., age 90, of Dayton, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2012. Maynard retired from the United States Air Force as a TSgt with over 21 years of faithful service. During his enlistment Maynard was a Purple Heart Recipient and also spent 18 months in a German Prisoner of War Camp. He was a member of the American Prisoners of War and VFW Post # 9927 in Kettering. Maynard was a member of Moraine Heights Baptist Church and attended South Dayton Baptist Church.
Maynard is survived by his grandson: Steven (Melissa) Thornhill; great grandchildren: Jordan & Jacob Thornhill; son-in-law: Michael Taylor; brothers: Oliver, Gene & Allard Lawson; and numerous other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife: Clara; daughter: Linda Taylor; parents: Oather & Sylvia (Young) Lawson; step mother: Ollie May Potts; and siblings: Jewell Williams, Woodrow Lawson, Evelyn Hazelbaker, Thacker Lawson, Louise Walters, Virginia Crabtree, Bernie Lawson and Vernie Lawson.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, March 23, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home (South Chapel) 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering with Pastor Danny Griffith officiating. Interment with military honors will in David's Cemetery in Kettering. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either Hospice of Dayton, the Alzheimer's Association or South Dayton Baptist Church in memory of Maynard.
