WALLACE, Mattie Catherine (Piersall), 96, of Vandalia passed away peacefully at home Monday August 4, 2008. She was born June 16, 1912 in Kiddville, KY to parents Carl and Ethel Piersall. Mattie is preceded in death by her husband Floyd; daughter Joan; grandson Clark Kellogg; sister Norma Golde; and brothers Shirley Lester Piersall and Cecil Piersall. She is survived by her sons Gerald E. (Lenna) Wallace, of Dayton and Jimmie L. Wallace, of MI; daughter Eloise Bailey (Myron) of Dayton, Shirley Norem (Larry) of WI, and Delores Kellogg (Jay) of Springboro, who were her caregivers; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; sisters Loraine Wilmoth of Oregon and Geneva Moody of Vandalia; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends, including close family friend Rosemarie Hofmann. During the years she was raising six children of her own, she provided foster care for 15 children in her home. Mattie was a member of Bethel Christian A/G since 1932, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. She was also a member of Dayton Gem & Mineral Society for many years and shared her rock-collecting and jewelry-making hobby with her husband. The family would like to thank her doctors and all the Hospice aides, nurses, and volunteers who gave such excellent care. Donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton. Funeral services will be held 2:00PM Friday, August 8, 2008 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Rd, with Rev. Bart Ellis officiating. Family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00PM prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at Willowview Cemetery.
