Allen, Matilda "Madeline" passed away Friday September 20th, 2019 after a short illness at Hospice of Dayton with her son by her side.
Madeline was born October 29th, 1936 in Youngstown, Ohio to August and Emma Pennesi. She began a 45-year nursing career with undergrad schooling at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA and Masters at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. Upon graduation, Madeline served during the Vietnam War in the Air Force as a nurse for 8 years earning the ranking of Major. Her nursing career led her to become a nursing instructor at Wright State as well as an Associate Professor at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio.
Madeline married her husband, Lt Col. Edward Bradford Allen Jr, June 18th, 1966 in Youngstown, Ohio and resided in Centerville, Ohio from 1972 until her death. Brad and Madeline were married for 44 years and had 2 children, daughter; Kristen (Algiers) and son; Gregory Allen. Madeline loved to be around her 10 grandkids, play bingo every Friday, and was involved in the bereavement committee with St Francis Church. In her free time she enjoyed sewing, reading, flower gardening, and watching "Jeopardy".
Madeline is preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward "Brad" Allen Jr, and her parents, August and Emma Pennesi. Madeline is survived by her daughter, Kristen Algiers (Andrew), son, Gregory Allen, grandchildren Ryan & Josh Berger, Garrett & Ally Algiers, Eric, Allie, Emma, and Olivia Holbrook, and Grayden and Tyler Allen as well as life-long friends Ray and Johnny Trickey and many maternal cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church or Hospice of Dayton in Madeline's memory.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019 from 12:00 pm until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 pm at St. Francis of Assisi Church 6245 Wilmington Pike, Centerville, Ohio 45459. Private burial at David's Cemetery.
