Mary Young

Mary Evelyn (Shellabarger) Young was born on November 8th 1932 in Beavercreek Township, Greene County Ohio. She succumbed to lymphoma after a 14 month battle on March 1, 2008. She was the daughter of Robert and Mary (Haverstick) Shellabarger. She attended Beavercreek Schools graduating in 1950. She is preceded in death by her parents and Grandparents; Morrist and Nellie Shellabarger, Harry and Katharine Haverstick. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Elwin E. Young, two sons both graduates of Beavercreek High School; Robert and wife Melissa of Miamisburg; David and wife Mary of Waynesville. Bob is a database manager for an international company. David works with the Beavercreek Fire Department and Sinclair Community College. Survivors include four grandchildren; Jason, Clara, Michaela, Nick. She is also survived by a sister Roberta Shellabarger and a Brother Dan and wife Bobbie Shellabarger and her beagle 'Buttons'. She will be missed by many relatives and friends especially from the Beavercreek Senior Center and the BHS class of 1950. Evelyn grew up on Kemp Road helping her Grandfather at Shellabarger Dairy. Evelyn graduated from Manchester College and taught in Roann High School, Indiana and Beavercreek High School. She worked for Elano Corporation for over 25 years most of it in payroll. She bowled in several different leagues, was president of the Beavercreek Senior Citizens Club for 11 years. A life long member of the Beavercreek Church of the Brethren she served as Sunday School teacher, financial secretary, board member and Deacon over the years. She volunteered at the Beavercreek Senior Center and as a tutor with the Salvation Army in Dayton and served at the Brethren Church Camp as camp counselor, camp dean, and even helped paint the lodge – twice. She was a member of the Beavercreek Fire Department Auxiliary. Friends may visit with the family at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton Xenia Rd., from 4:00 till 7:00 PM Tuesday, March 4, 2008. Funeral services will be held at the Beavercreek Church of the Brethren, 2659 Dayton Xenia Rd. at 2:00 p.m. March 5, 2008 with Pastor Trent Smith officiating. Family will be available half hour prior to the service. Internment will be next to her parents at Valley View Memorial Cemetery.
