Mary Jane Woods

Mary Jane Woods was born on August, 8, 1940, to the late Jim and Perline Goods in Monroe, Georgia, where she married the late Freddie Henry Lightfoot, and of that union, 8 children were born.

Mary and Freddie relocated to Dayton, Ohio, in 1971, where they raised their children. "MJ", as she was called by her sons, worked for Cavalon Drapery Cleaners, where she retired after 25 years, only to return to the working world as a Cook for IMA/SCLC for 15 years.

Mary married the late Moses Woods in 1988. She departed this life May 25th, 2021.

She is preceded in death by her son, Perry Goods; grandsons, Antwain Lightfoot, Demetrick Lightfoot and Shawn Peake; niece, Rashonda Robinson; nephews, Darian Goods and John Robinson; and son-in-law, Eric Simmons.

Mary leaves to cherish her memories her 7 daughters, Peggy Lightfoot, Kim (Marlon) Davis, Sonya Lightfoot, Lisa Simmons, Tammy Lightfoot, Dorothea (Arron) Newberry and Tricia Lightfoot; her son, Troy Shropshire; 22 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; sister, Betty Robinson; special cousins, Robert and Priscilla Cummings; and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving family members.

Mary accepted Christ at an early age and inspired her children to do so also. "MJ" enjoyed cooking, shopping, traveling and spending time with her family. Mary loved fashion and it was always displayed when she stepped in the church through her hats and suits. She was always quick witted, having a humorous response to most things.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021, from 11:00am-12:00pm, at Maranatha Worship Centre, 4501 Wolf Rd., Dayton, OH, where Funeral Services will begin at 12:00pm, with Bishop Truman Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Jeffersonview Cemetery.
