Mary Frances Shepherd

December 6, 1921 — December 9, 2023

Mary Frances Shepherd of Dayton, Ohio, passed into heaven on December 9, 2023, to meet her Savior face-to-face. Born December 6, 1921, she is preceded in death by her parents, Eva Warnock Shepherd and Richard Nathan Shepherd; her sister, Donna M. (William) Wells; nephew, William J. Wells; and niece, Diane J. Wells. Mary Fran is survived by her niece-in-law, Suzanne Wells; great-nephew Brad Wells and great-niece Jennifer Wells.

Just prior to her passing, Mary Fran celebrated her 102nd birthday, enjoying her favorite flowers and numerous cards & gifts from family & friends. Her final day on earth was spent among friends singing hymns to her and praying over her.

Mary Fran was a graduate of Miami/Jacob's Business College. Her professional work history was as varied and interesting as her personality. She worked twelve years at Wright Patterson Air Force Base as an Administrative Assistant, receiving top security clearance and managing the office for eight major ranking officers and five civilian scientists. Recognized for her outstanding contributions at WPAFB, she was placed on special assignment and was awarded a letter of commendation from the United States Air Force. Mary Fran also worked as personal secretary to the Assistant General Manager of WHIO for eleven years before moving on to The Kettering Foundation, from where she retired after twenty years.

Mary Fran was a woman of deep faith and was actively involved in Newspring Church. She was committed to other Christian organizations such as Women's Aglow International, Brigid's Path, H.O.P.E. Ministries, Son Reign Prison Ministry, and the Springboro Community Assistance Center. Later in life, at 99 years young, she began teaching Bible Study at The Trinity Retirement Community.

Mary Fran was curious about the world and enjoyed many hobbies including traveling, fashion, acting, decorating, entertaining, photography, arts & crafts, the theater and music.

Mary Fran loved people and was a faithful friend, a listening ear, and a consistent prayer warrior for many. She was immersed in the scriptures and modeled devotion to Jesus both in word and deed. Known for her zest for life, she was surrounded by many loved ones and friends, two of which - Terri Johnson and Lori Powers - lovingly and joyfully cared for her during her later years.

As a tribute to Mary Fran, guests are invited to wear her favorite color pink at her Celebration of Life Service.
