Mary Aletha Shafer Gridley

Mary Aletha Shafer Gridley, 92, of Kettering, passed away October 15, 2020 at Hospice of Dayton, to be reunited with her family and friends in Heaven.

She was born April 11, 1928 in Bradford, Ohio to the late Harry Roscoe and Ruth Delma (Harshbarger) Shafer.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, William in 1990. She was also preceded by her siblings, Harry (Ruth) Shafer, Joe Shafer, Ivan Lee Shafer, Naomi Monnier, Howard "Dean" Shafer, Charles (Linda) Daugherty, Margaret Shuff, Clarabelle Shafer; her in-laws, Walter (Cordelia) Gridley, Walter "Bud" (Betty Alice) Gridley, Betty Gridley, Lucy Gridley Dapp, Jack Gridley, Robert (Gloria) Gridley.

Mary is survived by her son William "Bill" (Pamella) Gridley; her 2 daughters, Debra "Debbie" Gridley, Candace "Candy" Gridley Anderkin; grandchildren, Heather Lynn (Ryan) Baker, Nathan (Fawna) Gridley, Kristofer (Heather Marie) Gridley, Matthew (Dana) Anderkin, Ashley (Ben) Ballman, and 19 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Paul Shafer and Bill (Ruth Ann) Shafer, sister-in-laws, Helen Shafer, Gloria Shafer, Mary Lou Gridley and her brother-in-laws, Harrison "Sonny" Monnier, Jim Dapp, and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

Mary's family would like to than Miami Valley Hospital and Hospice of Dayton for their loving care of her.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at David's Cemetery 4600 Mad River Road, Dayton, Ohio 45429.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton or to the Make A Wish Foundation in the name of Timothy Baker, Mary's great-grandson who is battling a rare form of Leukemia in North Carolina.
