Mary (nee Kent)Scullion, 74, of Beavercreek, OH passed away on Wednesday November 9, 2011 at Hospice of Dayton after a long illness. She is survived by her loving husband Joseph (Joe), children Joe III, Chris and Mary Beth, grandchildren Faith, Joe IV, Sarah, Peter, Alex and Mallory, great-grandchildren Kyle, Catherine Rose, Hayden, and Grace Leigh. She is also survived by sisters Helen Stuebing of Columbus, New Jersey, Ruth Adams of Naples, Florida, and cousins Edith Danson, New Jersey, and Richard Clegg, Philadelphia. She is predeceased by parents Harold and Mary Kent, and grandchild Rose Scullion.
Mary was born on February 9, 1937 in Philadelphia to parents Harold and Mary Kent (nee Clegg). She graduated from Simon Gratz High School in Philadelphia, was elected to the National Honor Society and attended Sinclair College of Dayton. As a young girl, she worked at WT Grants and Pep Boys; after graduation she worked as a secretary for Honeywell in Philadelphia.
Mary and Joe came to Dayton in 1977 where they worked for NCR. When Joe was transferred to Austin, Mary worked as executive assistant to Alfred King (King Ranch). Upon returning to Dayton, Mary worked as executive assistant to NCR CEOs Jerry Stead and Lars Nyberg. Mary counted among her many friends members of the St. Leonard Faith Community of Centerville, members of Friendship Force of Dayton, friends and co-workers at NCR Corp, friends at NCR Country Club, and friends and neighbors on Wynstone Court.
Mary and Joe met in 1953 and married in 1958. Mary loved so many things: traveling with Friendship Force, snorkeling in the Caribbean, golfing at NCR, geocaching with Joe, flying in Texas, Mass with her Faith Community, dinner at the Paragon, and visiting her children and sisters.
Her sweetness, love, friendship and faith will be missed by all who knew her.
Visitation is Friday November 11, 2011 from 5pm to 8pm at the Newcomer Funeral Home (South Chapel), Kettering, OH.
Funeral mass is Saturday November 12, 2011 at 11am at the St. Leonard Chapel, Centerville, OH.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, St. Leonard Foundation, or Hospice of Dayton.
