Mary Kay was born in Columbus, Ohio on December 16, 1929 (the "year of the crash" she always pointed out). She was a 1951 graduate of the College of St. Francis, Joliet, Illinois, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. Mary was a longtime resident of Dayton, Ohio (since 1952) and was a devoted homemaker for decades, raising her family of 11 children with her husband of 52 years, Bill, Sr. For many years, she and her husband ran the "Coffee and Donut Shop" for Corpus Christi Church. Mary Kay later volunteered at Corpus Christi School kindergarten (as soon as her youngest child went off to school) and also worked at the school for many years in the lunch cafeteria selling snacks and was affectionately known as the "Pretzel Lady". On weekends, she spent hours running the concession stand with her daughters and husband during grade school basketball games. Mary was proud of her civil service on the County Grand Jury, gladly sharing how much she enjoyed talking to other jurors. Later in life, she regularly spent time assisting with the little ones in her daughters home child care business and was fondly called "Grandma Fisher".
Mary Kay loved spending all the time she could with her family whether just hanging out at home, celebrating holidays and special events, or traveling (especially to visit family). Some of her favorite destinations included San Diego, Sierra Vista, Las Vegas, NOLA, Joliet, NC, Hawaii, and Belgium (and other parts of Europe nearby). She was an avid sports fan, faithfully cheering on her UD Flyers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds, and favorite NFL player, "Tommy Boy" Brady. She was always ready to celebrate with a strawberry daiquiri, particularly with her granddaughter (and drinking buddy). She often attributed her long life to this delicious cool drink, with or without whipped cream and a cherry. Mary and her family were blessed by the selfless at home care provided for many years by her daughter, Jane, as well as the many hours of loving care provided over the last several months by her daughters, Mary and Anne.
The family is very appreciative for the dedication and compassionate care provided by the staff at Gentiva Hospice over the past several months allowing her to fulfill her wishes of living out her life at home.
