Mary Helen Hoelscher

June 26, 1934 — January 23, 2025

Dayton, Ohio

Mary Helen Hoelscher, a beloved matriarch and vibrant presence in the lives of many, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family in her hometown of Dayton, Ohio. Born on June 26, 1934, she lived a full and cherished life, dedicated to her family and community.

Mary was a retiree from Hewitt Soap Company, where she forged lasting friendships and displayed her remarkable work ethic. Her outgoing and social personality made her a true joy to be around. She had a knack for creating warm and welcoming spaces, inviting family and friends to share in laughter and the simple pleasures of life.

Spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, was Mary's greatest joy. She embraced every moment spent with them, and her heart swelled with pride as she watched her family grow. Her legacy continues with her children: John (Vivian) Hoelscher, Joan (Greg) Johnston, Joe (Terry) Hoelscher, JoDee Davis, Joy (Eric) Loomis, and James (Ann) Hoelscher. Mary was not only a devoted mother but also a cherished grandmother to 12 grandchildren, including John Jr., Juanita, Alan, Joseph Jr., Kristin, Ian, Shannon, Dustin, Alex, Brittney, Jordan, and 18 great-grandchildren who were all touched by her warmth and love. She also leaves behind her brother Jerry Schmalstig and sister in laws Marilyn Schmalstig and Pat Hoelscher.

Mary's interests were as colorful as her personality. She found joy in bowling, knitting, crocheting, and playing cards, often sharing her talents and spirited enthusiasm with those around her. Her laughter and love will echo in the hearts of her many nieces and nephews, who carry forward the loving traditions she instilled.

She is now reunited with her late husband, Louis Hoelscher, and her beloved family who have passed before her, including her parents, John and Virginia Schmalstig, son in law Patrick Davis, her granddaughter Stephanie, and her seven siblings.

Mary Helen Hoelscher will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her. Her spirit remains alive in the stories shared, the family gatherings she cherished, and the rich tapestry of memories woven throughout her life. May she rest in peace, knowing she leaves behind a legacy of love and togetherness that will carry on in the hearts of her family forever.
