Mary E. Peters

PETERS, Mary Evelyn, age 75, of Miamisburg passed away peacefully with her children at her side on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 after a long and inspiring battle with cancer, a battle she faced with dignity, perseverance and a much needed sense of humor.

A native of Virginia, where she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Mary was loved as a wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor. She devoted her life to being the best example of a true Mom to her 3 children. Mary was known by all for her friendship, humor and ability to love unconditionally, and she touched those around her with kindness and compassion. Mary was here to teach us many life lessons, among them, how to carry ourselves during the worst circumstances. Her strength was infectious to the very end.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Donald, her parents, Richard Henry and Essie Riggs; siblings, Patrick, Mattie Sue, Roy and Venus; special brother-in-law, Mike Alguire, whom she loved as a brother and many other dear family members and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna, son-in-law, Randy and grandson, Bayly, of Miamisburg; son Douglas, daughter-in-law, Whitney and grandchildren, Elliott, Alaina and Anderson, of Fayetteville, NC; and son, Patrick, daughter-in-law, Kari and grandson, Henry Patrick, of Dayton, siblings, Edna (Ed) Crumley, Emogene (Dale) Ladd, Wayne (Zoe) Riggs, Ollie Alguire, Richard (Sharon) Riggs, Mike (Virginia) Riggs, Norma (Bobby) Love, sister-in-law, Becky Riggs, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family wishes to thank the many friends who have supported Mary and her family to the very end; Dr. Manish Sheth and his staff at Dayton Physicians Hematology & Oncology, whom she loved and considered part of her extended family. Special thanks to the staff and leadership of Hospice of Dayton's Colp Building who helped Mary and her family find peace and acceptance in her last days.

A celebration of Mary's life will be held at a later date. The family asks that if so inclined, memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donors' choice or Hospice of Dayton in memory of Mary. Arrangements entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home South Chapel.
