Mary Jean Cope, age 87 of Dayton, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Miami Valley Hospital - North. She was born December 15, 1931 in Dayton, Ohio.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary O'Brien, her former husband, James "Briar" Cope and 2 children, Margaret R. Cope and Phillip K. Cope.
She is survived by her sons, Mike (Patricia) Cope and James "Tom" Cope; grandchildren, Marci Cope, Aimee Cooper, Kevin (Chrissy) Dempsey, Travis (Veronica) Cope, Kimberly (Tom) Draime and Jamie Cope; 10 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren as well as many friends.
Mary was a 1949 graduate of Wilbur Wright High School. After school Mary was married and began a family. She dedicated the majority of her life to her husband and children as a homemaker. Mary was employed by local printing companies over the years including International Envelope and Hooven-Dayton. Mary was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church for many years and later attended Christ the King Lutheran Church She had a passion for and loved flower gardening in her spare time and will always be remembered for her tenacity.
Family will receive guests from 5:00-7:00pm Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, OH 45439.
