Marvin Sylvester Brents, Jr. "Junior/J.R." (72) passed away peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2020, with his daughter by his side. Junior was an incredible son, brother, father, uncle, cousin, and friend; and will be sorely missed by all who loved and cherished him.
Junior was born on November 14, 1947 in Oak Ridge, TN to Pauline and Marvin S. Brents, Sr. He graduated from Wayne High School in 1966 and was a member of the track and gymnastics teams. He began his career in the automotive industry as a diesel mechanic; and later served as a union steward for I.U.E., Local 775, while working for Chrysler.
Junior was a 32° Mason belonging to Masonic Lodge 312 in Harveysburg, Ohio, and later affiliating with Huber Heights Masonic Lodge 777, Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio. He was also a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton.
Junior had varied interests and hobbies including restoring cars, woodworking, leather-working, photography, traveling, reading, watching movies, and riding his Harley-Davidson. He loved music, especially Celtic music, Spanish guitar music, and anything Bob Segar. For many years, Junior worked out at Vic Tanny and boxed at the Dayton Gym Club. In addition to being a boxer himself, Junior enjoyed raising boxer dogs.
Throughout his life, Junior demonstrated an unwavering perseverance, a resolute spirit, a quiet confidence, and a deep love for his family and those around him. Above all, the biggest joy of his life was spending time with his daughter, Heather, and his grandson, Christopher.
Preceded in death by his parents, Mary Pauline (Neal) (2006) and Marvin Sylvester Brents, Sr. (2001); daughter, Amy Noel Brents (1967); sister, Wanda Gayle Brents (1968); and brother, Michael Ollie Brents, Sr. (2000). He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Heather DeAnne and Todd Back; grandson, Christopher M. G. Orr; brother, David Ray Brents; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio, to celebrate and honor a life well lived. Huber Heights Masonic Lodge 777 and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton services will begin at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, June 26, followed by a funeral service officiated by Pastor Michael Severt.
