It is with heavy hearts and immense gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Martha Strawser, age 75, of Wilmington, Ohio. A beloved soul who departed this world on October 1st, 2023, Martha truly embodied the beauty of life, finding joy in the simplest pleasures and sharing that joy with all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was born August 17, 1948 in Dayton, Ohio, to Lewis Baker and Margaret Baker. She is survived by her husband, Terry Strawser; her children, Robert (Amy) Strawser and Scott (Jessica) Strawser; her grandchildren, Samuel, Michael, Addison, Jack, and Bailey Strawser; her siblings, Mary Baker, Francis Hoover, and David Baker; and numerous other family and friends.
Martha had an unshakeable love for the great outdoors and stars above us, often embarking on long walks that allowed her to be at one with the world around her. She especially loved to seek out hikes among the trilliums in the springtime. A talented seamstress, she could fashion beauty from fabric and thread, creating garments that were not just clothing and home stylings, but works of art. Sailing her San Juan boat brought her peace, and she shared this love with family during many memorable trips (and was the best company for waiting out the doldrums). Her love for gardening was equally inspiring. She knew the name (and often the Latin name) of every flower, plant, and tree, and was always happy to help in a loved one's garden. Everyone admired her own lush gardens filled with vibrant blooms and fragrant herbs, butterflies and birds. Family games and cards were a testament to Martha's ability to bring joy into any room. And then there was the ocean and beach, a place where Martha found solace and exhilaration in equal measure. Martha's greatest source of happiness was found in her deep and unwavering love for her children, siblings, grandchildren, and her beloved husband of 54 years.
Martha's legacy is not merely a collection of interests, hobbies and family but a testament to a life deeply loved. Her generous spirit and kindness touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind cherished memories that will forever bloom in our hearts, just as the flowers in her beloved garden.
We invite you to join us in celebrating her life on Tuesday, October 10th. A visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, OH 45424, with services immediately following at 1:30 p.m.
