Martha Louise Geisel, born on September 27, 1936, in Hendersonville, Tennessee, passed away on January 14, 2025, in Vandalia, Ohio. She was a devoted member of the community, known for her dynamic personality and rich experiences throughout her life. Martha wore many hats; her early career included serving as the secretary of the Parent-Teacher Association and working as a playground supervisor at Morrison Elementary in Northridge. Later on, she embarked on a successful career as a real estate agent and became the proud owner of Marty’s Towing, alongside her husband, Ralph Geisel, who operated the business.
Martha was a woman of many interests and hobbies. A faithful Baptist, she found joy in dancing and was passionate about music. She thrived on the thrill of reading murder mysteries and immersed herself in the challenge of crossword puzzles. Devoted to her family, she was the cornerstone of her household, always the go-to person for any family matters. Known affectionately for her ornery spirit, Martha experienced life in varied phases, transitioning from a homebody to embracing a more adventurous lifestyle, earning herself the nickname "Go."
Martha is survived by her loving children: David Ralph (Debbie) Geisel, Malinda L. (David) Ballard, Brenda Joyce (Raymond Cash) Hawkins, Helen Elizabeth Wolfe, and Bonnie Jane Geisel. In addition, she leaves behind her step-sons, Gerald Geisel and Dale (Anna) Geisel, step-daughter-in-law Mary Lou Geisel, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will carry her memory forward. She is also survived by her sister, Teresa Pharris, along with many other relatives and friends who cherished her.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin Bailey and Dorotha Latimer; along with her step-father, Stanford Latimer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Geisel Sr., with whom she shared 44 wonderful years; step-son Ralph Geisel Jr.; step-daughter-in-law Carol Geisel; her granddaughter Melody Ballard; and her siblings, Bonnie D. Parker and Stanley Douglas Latimer.
Martha Louise Geisel's vibrant spirit and the legacy of love and laughter she created will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 from 12:30-1:30pm at the Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45424. The service will follow at 1:30pm. Martha will be laid to rest next to her husband, Ralph at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery.
