MARLYN HOWARD WILT, age 95, of Huber Heights, Ohio, passed away at home on November 15, 2018. Despite his age, he was vibrant and active until just a few months before his passing.
Marlyn was born June 1, 1923, in Fayette County, Ohio to Willie and Carol (Sanderson) Wilt; one of fifteen siblings in this farming family. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force and attaining the rank of Colonel. He was also a Senior Logistics Officer at Wright Patterson AFB, for a combined thirty-four years of service to his country.
Marlyn was a founding member of the Double H Square Dance Club, eventually becoming an "Angel" – an expert dancer who helped teach beginners; and proudly posed as "Uncle Sam" on the Club's float in the Huber Heights Fourth of July parade. He was also a founding member of the Wayne Township Civic Club and the Wayne Township Swim Club.
Marlyn spent countless hours delving into his family's genealogy, and although he attended Ohio University, he was a fan of OSU football. Marlyn's philanthropist activities included generous contributions to a wide variety of organizations, most recently establishing The Marlyn and Marjorie Moore Wilt Agricultural Scholarship at both Wayne and Miami Trace High Schools.
Marlyn was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie Moore Wilt; sisters, Fern Hollingsworth and Alice Wilt; brothers, Chester, Grant, Carl, Ralph, John, Willie, and an infant brother.
Marlyn is survived by his sister, Wanda Wilt; and brothers, Robert (Sandra), Richard (Margaret), Malcolm, and Ronald (Sandra).
He is also survived by his children, Vickie Cates (Bill), Steven Wilt, Gregory Wilt (Valerie), Linda Sonick (Tom), and Karen Hatfield; grandchildren, Scott Cates, Brent Cates, Tiffany Johnson, Amy Allen, Matthew Sonick, Arianne Wilt, and Samantha Wilt; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the Sulphur Grove United Methodist Church, 7505 Taylorsville Rd., Huber Heights, at 11am on Friday, November 23, 2018. The funeral service will immediately follow at 1pm. A funeral procession for the graveside service will begin right after the service to Milledgeville-Plymouth Cemetery (7346 ST.RT. 729 NW, Washington CH, Oh).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marlyn's honor to Sulphur Grove UMC or the charity of your choice.
