Marlin Eugene Duke, 82, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025, at The Ridge of Beavercreek with his wife Glenda by his side, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Marlin lived a life defined by passion, determination, and an unwavering love for his family.
Born on September 1, 1942, in Blairsville, PA, to Elmer and Vera Bergman Duke, Marlin was the oldest of five siblings. He grew up in Tunnelton, PA, before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1960, serving in Wiesbaden, Germany, before continuing his military career as a mechanic in San Antonio, TX. After his service, he moved to Fort Worth to continue his career as a mechanic with Bell Helicopter and later with Braniff Airlines in Dallas. In 1982, alongside his wife, he founded Duke Agency Inc., an independent insurance agency in Bachman Lake and Flower Mound, TX, which they successfully ran for over 25 years.
Marlin was an adventurer at heart, with a competitive spirit and a love for the outdoors. He was active in adult soccer, rugby, motocross, water skiing, snow skiing, distance running, cycling, and later took up mountain biking and golf. Even in retirement, he began each day with Tai Chi and remained an active skier, logging over 100 days on the mountain well into his late 70s. His friends on the mountain affectionately called him “Iron Man” for his endurance and passion for life. He also loved exploring national parks, traveling cross-country with his wife in their RV, and cheering on Dallas sports teams.
A devoted Christian, Marlin was a man of strong values, quiet humility, and integrity. He was hardworking yet playful, a steady presence, and the pillar of his family. He led by example, teaching his children and grandchildren how to live with determination, kindness, and purpose. To them, he was more than a father and grandfather-he was a mentor, a hero, and a guiding force. His family was his greatest joy, and he cherished their reunions and time spent together above all else.
Marlin is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Glenda Farrar Duke, whom he married on June 10, 1970; his son, Kevin Duke, and daughter-in-law, Lori Duke; and his beloved grandchildren: Ginger Duke, Cody and Liz Duke and their children, Theodore and Maxwell; Bryce and Rachel Duke and their daughter, Addison; Tyler and Brynn Duke; and Danny Duke. He is also survived by his siblings, David and Judy Duke, Jim and Karen Duke, Sally and Charles Duke-Hyman, and Ray Duke, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Jessica Duke.
In honor of Marlin’s wishes, no formal service will be held. His family will celebrate his life privately, cherishing the memories and lessons he left behind. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Marlin Eugene Duke was a man of deep loyalty, inner strength, and steadfast determination. To his family, he was a hero-a true “Iron Man” who lived life to the fullest and left behind a legacy of love, resilience, and adventure.
