Marlene Schilling passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and sister, Hanelore Hölzel. Marlene is survived by her husband of 59 years, Peter Schilling, 1 brother August Vermassen, 2 sons, Lars (Lisa) Schilling and Christian (Heather) Schilling, 9 grandchildren: Seth (Brittany) Schilling, Brent (Anna) Schilling, Justice Schilling (Victoria), Monika (Matt) Wright, Summer Schilling, Clay (Gillian) Schilling, River Schilling, Sophia Chambliss, Chloe McInturff, 3 great grandchildren, Solomon Schilling, Rylan Wright and Grace Schilling.
Marlene was born on January 8, 1943, to August and Helene Vermassen in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany. At 12 years old, her family immigrated to South Africa where she grew up, started a family and enjoyed working in the airline industry. In 1978, her family immigrated once again to the US where they lived in New Jersey, Michigan, Virginia and most recently Ohio.
Marlene enjoyed traveling, crocheting, quilting, working crossword puzzles, and reading her Bible. Her Monday gatherings with her Staunton prayer group at the chapel in the woods was one of her cherished memories. Anyone who spoke to Marlene knew that she loved her relationship with Jesus and spent many hours studying the Bible. In one of her devotionals, she wrote: My flesh and my heart fail me, but God is the strength of my life and my portion forever.
Her family thanks Ohio’s Hospice and Enclave of Springboro for their compassionate care.
