Marlene Houseman, 85, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on December 22, 2024 after an eight year battle with Dementia. She resided at Mountain Top Rehabilitation where she was lovingly cared for and was fondly called Kentucky Granny because of her accent.
Marlene was born on March 11, 1939 in Closplint, KY to the late Alex and Patsy Frances Kelly. She was the first of ten children. At a young age Marlene moved to Dayton, OH where she made a life for herself. She had a long career in various grocery stores and was also a home seamstress. In 1979, she married Don Houseman, a devoted husband until he passed.
In her free time, Marlene was an avid gardener and loved to can fresh vegetables, she also loved to crochet gifts for family and friends, and enjoyed playing games such as Scrabble where she would win by using her "hillbilly" words. She was a steadfast Christian and attended church at Mountain Top Baptist. Most of all, Marlene adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was proud of them all and they brought her the greatest joy.
She is survived by her sons Richard (Angel) Landis, Kenneth Landis; daughters Deborah (Scott) Warner, Frances (Daniel) McLean; her 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her beloved cat, Maui. She also leaves behind her siblings: Jimmy (Paula) Kelly, Bobby (Margie) Kelly, Dorothy Long, Mary (Harold) Bevins, Teddy Kelly, Kathy (Rick) Noe.
She was preceded in death by her loving son Freddie Landis, husband Don Houseman, siblings Joyce Bowling, Harold Kelly, and Kenneth Kelly.
A memorial will take place on Friday, December 27th from 5-7 pm at McCune Funeral Services, Inc. 80 S. Mountain Blvd, Mountain Top, PA.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 4:00 pm on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio, where the funeral service will begin at 4:00 pm.
Marlene will be laid to rest with her husband, Don on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 10:00 am at Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 West Third Street, Dayton, Ohio. Her funeral procession will form at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel beginning at 9:00 am on January 2, 2025 and will depart at 9:20 am.
