Marla Jean Walker, age 82 was born on June 23, 1939 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Minos & Florence (Richie) Mitchell. She departed this life on June 28, 2021 at Stonespring of Vandalia.
She was a graduate of Dunbar High School class of 1958. After graduation, she completed Cosmetology school and attended Sinclair Community College. In addition to cosmetology, she had a career in Nursing, and was a Social worker for Montgomery County. After retirement, she returned to work as an Administrative Assistant. Her greatest joy was becoming a Foster Parent for Montgomery County where she was instrumental in changing the lives of many children entrusted to her care. Marla was an excellent cook who was infamous for many culinary delights especially her Thanksgiving dressing and sweet potato pies. She loved to travel, as well as spending time caring for her grandchildren with whom she shared a special bond.
Preceding her in death, are her parents, her husband Lyman Walker Jr., sons Danny Wilson Sr. & Steven Wilson, brothers Clarence & Allen Mitchell, sister Carolyn Mitchell, and great grandson Justin Alredge Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters: Diane Smith, Kimberly (Charles Jr.) Robinson, Donise Walker, and Christina Walker; brother, Norman (Ernestine) Mitchell, sister Peggy (Willie Sr.) Dickerson; Sister-in-law Dorothy Mitchell; Daughter-in-law Carmen Wilson, Devoted niece Yvette (Morris) Smith, Aunts Monaray Bell & Ruth Smith; Special Grandchildren: Danny "DJ" (Ashley) Wilson Jr., Amanda Cotton, Amelia Baccus, Kevanna Jones, & Jayden Walker, 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
