Mark Steven Geddis, age 54 died suddenly March 3, 2012 in the home and presence of his son in Kettering, Ohio. After a courageous battle with cancer, he is now at peace.
He was born Oct 4, 1957 to Mike & Marcia Geddis in Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from Sylvania High School in 1975. Afterwards he enlisted in the Navy, where he enjoyed traveling the world while serving his country. He loved the water, whether sailing, boating or scuba diving. In prior years, he was a certified scuba diver and explored anything from old ship wrecks to under water natural parks in Cuba. After the Navy he continued his passion for the water and was a licensed captain on the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway. He left the Toledo area for international waters. Later in life he settled in Dayton, to be close to his sons and grandchildren, the pride & joy of his life.
He is survived & sadly missed by; sons, Matthew (Wendy) Geddis, Patrick (Paige) Geddis; grandsons, Isaiah, Jeremiah and his special Matty, all of Dayton, Ohio; sisters, Kimberly (Dave) Wopshall, of Lambertville, MI, Karen Polus, of Sandusky, OH, and Suzanne Dewitt, of L.A., CA.; the entire Omstead family; and several nieces and nephews; and special puggle, Archie.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 2pm at Newcomer Funeral Home South Chapel (3940 Kettering Blvd, Kettering, OH 45439). Friends and family are welcome to gather one hour prior.
At his request, his ashes will be scattered into warm ocean waters. For eternity, he will be in peace at rest and out to sea.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks and gratitude to the V.A. of Dayton for all the help and support they provided Mark during his time of need.
