Mark Isaiah McCurtis was born on August 16th, 1997. He departed this world too soon on October 26th, 2017.
Mark left to mourn his death, his mother, Bettie A. McCurtis; his father Mark McCurtis; brother, Christopher D. Sanderson; and beloved sister, Sierra N. McCurtis. Also left to grieve his departure are his aunts, Dolcena Sanderson (Dayton), Elaine (Branden I) Payton (Huber Heights); uncle, Woodson (Staci) Sanderson II (Akron); cousins, Conor G. Sanderson and Branden Payton II, and second cousin, Ernestine McCurtis (New York). Mark was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Sylvester & Catherine Lacy, and paternal grandparents William & Eleanor Thompson.
Mark was born at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton Ohio. He graduated from Archbishop Alter High School in 2015. He attended Cleveland State University for one year and Sinclair Community College. He was employed full time at Kroger's on Siebenthaler Ave. as a 3rd shift stocker. He was baptized at Mount Olive United Church of Christ.
Mark loved to play basketball, whether if it was in a video game, for a school, for the YMCA, or a pickup game at a park. He always had a basketball in his hand. He had taken boxing classes, and was into weight lifting and yoga. His appearance was always important to him.
Mark's interest varied in scope. He loved a large array of movies, music, and books. Regardless of what he was watching, listening to or reading, he always looked for the deeper meaning in people, their choices and decisions, and the meaning of life in general. He would turn to the Bible in an effort to find the true meaning of our existence here on Earth.
Mark found solace in the lyrics rapped by J. Cole. One of his favorite J. Cole quotes was "Believe in God…Like the Sun up in the sky, science can tell us how, but they (the scientist) can't tell us why."
Mark's heart was huge and his desire to make people happy was enormous. When he cared, he cared deeply, when he loved, he loved unconditionally.
He left us far too early. He has left a huge void in this world, but he has gone on to bigger and better things.
Family will receive friends Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 4 p.m. at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, Ohio, Rev. Joe Whitt, officiating.
