Mark E. Hubbs

Mark E. Hubbs, age 83, died peacefully at his home in West Carrollton, Ohio. At the time of passing, he was surrounded by his loving wife, Margie of over 60 years, and his two daughters, Julie and Melanie. Mark was born in Pansy, Kentucky on July 21, 1939 to the late Steely Monroe and Mary Azalee (Steward) Hubbs. Mark is survived by his most amazing wife and caregiver, Margie (Hunter) Hubbs; his two daughters, Julie Hubbs and Melanie (Hubbs) McCoy. Mark greatly treasured and loved immensely his son-in-law, Steve McCoy who has been a tremendous support to Mark and Margie and all the family.

Mark was one of eight children. Six of the eight children who preceded Mark in his death were Debbie (Coker), Yvonne (Middleton), Francis (Slappey), Phyllis Hubbs, Melvin Hubbs and Frank Hubbs. Mark is survived by his only living sibling, Freda (Hubbs) Bracht and her husband, Joe. Mark is also survived by his siblings' children (multiple nieces and nephews) and his most cherished first cousins from Walter and Elsie Hubbs whom he grew up with in Kentucky.

Mark was an incredible provider for his family and instilled that strong work ethic in his children. He spent the majority of his working years at Delco Moraine/EG & G Monsanto Mound and Montgomery County Sanitary Engineering. During his free time, Mark would volunteer coach his daughter, Melanie's softball team during her junior high years. Also in his early years, Mark loved to participate in pick-up basketball games with his church, Belmont Church of Christ, softball games, and bowling. During family -church picnics, you could easily find him being a worthy opponent during a corn-hole match.

If you knew or saw Mark, especially during his younger and middle years, you may have thought you were looking at Pete Rose who was an infamous player and "hit-king" for the Cincinnati Reds. Mark loved the Cincinnati Reds and during summers he and his family would frequently go to Cincinnati to watch the Reds. When Cincinnati built the current Great American Ball Park which is the new stadium for the Reds, Mark participated in a "Pete Rose look-a-like contest" and won! His prize was to ride in the Findlay Street Market Parade on opening day which he did and he and his daughter, Melanie attended that game as well. The family of Mark could tell you many stories of people just astounded at how much Mark looked like Pete which Mark had a lot of fun with too! Mark was also a die-hard, University of Kentucky Men's Basketball fan. He loved his "Cats", especially when March Madness arrived which we believe if Heaven "can stream" March Madness somehow Dad will find a way to watch!

During Mark and Margie's retirement years, they spent close to 19 years visiting Largo, Florida as snowbirds to get away from the winter months in Ohio. They made so many friends during their times there. Mark loved to take early morning walks or bike rides around the Lake Seminole Park where they stayed in Florida. Mark found a "Men's early morning coffee group" wherever he was; whether that was in Florida or close to their home in West Carrollton. He greatly appreciated his friendship with those men he met up with at the Miamisburg, Burger King (Leonard, Norm, Bill T and Bill, Albert, Mike, George, Alan and Lee). Mark and Margie also loved going to Columbus, OH to spend a few days with Margie's sister, Betty and her husband Jack Kincade. During that time, they would enjoy visiting various sites like the Columbus Zoo and eating out and then spending the night with them. Betty and Jack would equally come to Mark and Margie's home and do the same while Betty would get her hair done at the same hair salon Margie went too. Mark's father Monroe, was a coal miner and he and Jack enjoyed talking about coal mining and the history of mining.

Also during his retirement years, Mark volunteered his time to keep the grass cut and bushes trimmed at his home church, Belmont Church of Christ where he and Margie are members for over 50 plus years. You would also find him helping either his neighbors or his two daughter', Julie and Melanie with their yard up-keep and general "projects" needing to be done. Of course, he tackled these projects sometime without reading directions which could make for some amusing completions, but he always got the job done! His son-in-law, Steve, referred to Mark as a man of "Perpetual Motion" as Mark was always on the go; even up to his most recent senior years in his early 80s. Mark would come over and spend time with Steve and Melanie during hot summer days and get in their pool while singing to his favorite 50s music. He also enjoyed coming over to their house when green beans and tomatoes were ready for picking from their garden.

Anyone that knew Mark, would say "he didn't know a stranger". He had an infectious smile and laugh that would just put you at ease. Mark found humor and happiness in just about anything and everything he touched or did. His loyalty and loving devotion to his wife, Margie and children will remembered forever.

The family of Mark Hubbs wants to sincerely extend their heart-felt appreciation to Mark's doctors (Dr. Key and Nurse Joni, and Oncologist Dr. Yanes of Dayton Physicians Group) as well as Mark's primary care doctor, Dr. Jay Hoffman of many years. Also thankful for the tremendous support and care Mark received from the In-Home Hospice Care –Nurse Lorraine and all the Hospice Aids that came and gave Mark great comfort and care.

Visitation and Services for Mark will be held at Newcomers Funeral Home located at 3940 Kettering Blvd, Kettering, OH on Friday, March 17, 2023. Visitation will start at 10:30 am followed by the funeral service at 11:30am. Graveside burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in West Carrollton, OH. A light luncheon will be held at Belmont Church of Christ located a 3003 S. Smithville, Rd, Dayton, OH directly after the graveside service.
