Mark D. Walker

December 6, 1981 — June 11, 2021

Mark Dontrelle Walker was born December 6, 1981 in Dayton, Ohio to Grayland Robinson and Sharon R. Walker. He departed from this life to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, June 11, 2021.

Mark confessed his love for Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized. Mark attended Dunbar High School where he joined ROTC and graduated in 2000. He earned a scholarship to Morehead State University and continued his degree in Business Administration and enlisted in the Army in 2004. Mark was stationed overseas in South Korea, then Baltimore, MD. He commissioned in December for 2 years and then 2nd Lieutenant in the Medical Service Corp as Medical Service Officer. Following his commission he served in the following duty locations: South Korea (2005-2006), Baltimore (2006-2007), Fort Hood, Texas (2007-2010) where he was promoted to Captain, deployed to Mosul, Iraq (2008-2009), Fort Lewis/McCord (2010-2013), and San Antonio (2013-2016). Mark was promoted to Major at Fort Sam Houston. He also attended command Gen Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas (2016-2017). Major Mark D. Walker successfully retired from Fort Hood in October of 2018.

After retirement, Mark was employed from 2018-2020 with Baylor, Scott, & White as a Medical Instructor. In 2020, he returned to support the military as DOD contractor with MB Solutions for Army Materiel Command as the Army PrePositioned Stocks Medical Expert in Huntsville, Alabama until the time of his death.

Mark was a thinker, he would brainstorm a situation until he had every angle figured out, including a plan B. Whatever he was driven to do, he pushed past all obstacles until he achieved his goal, and then on to the next one. Mark was an exemplary professional, always striving for improvement along the way in himself and others. He had a true sense of the word team, pulling together and knew how to build upon it. Mark never shied away from an opportunity to learn from his elders. He considered them a true gem to be gleaned from and was held in high respects.

Mark had such a warm, loving and smiling light, he would work his way around a room with his charisma, positive energy and one of a kind swag that by the time he left most people knew who he was and said his name like old friends. Wow! is best way to describe his big smile, his laughter was just infectious and he was a big jokester. His pranks had no limit and he never tired of retelling them. He was a giver and would literally give you the shoes off his feet. Mark had an honorable and humble spirit, he worked from a moral compass and you instantly knew his heart was pure and intentional.

Mark was a neat and orderly man who did not like things out of place…until his baby girls came along. He had no choice but to let them have their way, with Maraya and Faith he was truly outnumbered and enjoyed every minute of it. He was a patient, loving father and wanted to give them everything he could. He cherished every moment they shared, travelling together, playing games, praying together and always confirming their inner beauty as little girls. Mark prided himself as a father, made it his mission to show them off to all his family and friends. Maraya and Faith held his heart in a way no one else could. Mark created a legacy that will live on within Maraya and Faith and each of us. Mark truly loved us all and his everlasting memory will be embedded in all our hearts forever.

Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas & Shirley Hughes, and L.C. & Jimmie Lou Robinson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved daughters, Maraya (5) & Faith (3) Walker; parents, Sharon R. Walker and Grayland D. Robinson; siblings, LaKiesha (Altonie) Walker-Goins, LaShanda (Gabriel) Candelaria, Travis Davis, Leon Miller, Norvell Robinson, and Rhea (Clyde) Owens; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
