Marion "Dave"C. Shoop

Marion C. Shoop, Jr. (Dave) to family and friends passed away peacefully in Beavercreek, Ohio on April 7th 2022. He was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on November 12, 1940. Dave was the son of Marion C. (Pat) Shoop and Anna L. Shoop (Roberts) and has been a resident of Beavercreek, OH since October 1993. Dave married the love of his life Linda C. Hancock (of Eldon, Iowa) on June 22,1967. They met as Pen Pals during The Vietnam War and were married for 54 years.

Dave grew up in Ottumwa Iowa graduating from OHS in June 1959. As a junior in OHS, Dave joined the Marine Corps Reserve and left for boot camp immediately after graduation. Following boot camp graduation, he served assignment at multiple bases throughout the United States and overseas and also served three combat tours in The Vietnam War.

During his tours in Vietnam, he was awarded the following medals: Good Conduct with 3 stars, National Defense Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal with Combat V, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Presidential Unit Citation with 1 star, and Expert Rifle & Pistol Marksmanship Badges.

Dave was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1968. Following his discharge he had a 25-year career in the federal government as a DOD Civilian, which led to many moves around the US and overseas. Dave retired in 1995 while assigned at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio / Beavercreek, OH.

Dave was an avid sports fan always routing for the Iowa Hawkeyes football team. He loved fast pitch softball, bowling and fishing with his family and friends. While in the Marines he played fast pitch softball for 1st Marine Air Wing in Japan and throughout the Marine Corps. Dave began bowling in 1957. While in Taegu, Korea, Dave was President of YABA providing lessons and teaching youth to bowl in leagues and tournament competitions. His recreational bowling culminated when he bowled a perfect 300 game in Dayton, Ohio in 1998.

Dave was preceded in death by his wife Linda C. Shoop, his parents, brother Norman & both maternal and paternal grandparents. Dave is survived by his 3 children David M. (Krista) of Beavercreek Ohio, Richard M. (Tamela) of Louisville Kentucky and daughter Jodie L. (Tim), of Arlington Virginia, 4 grandchildren Gavin, Tyler, Coby & granddaughter Ashely, brother Billy (Judy) Shoop of Jacksonville, Florida and sister Betty Nall of Des Moines, Iowa.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 14, 2022 from 5-7pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432). A Funeral Service will follow at 7pm at the Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, Mr. Shoop has requested that donations be made to Aley United Methodist Church, Beavercreek Oh in honor of his wife Linda Shoop. Funds will be used for Renovation / Upgrade of Aley UM children's daycare facility and playground as deemed appropriate by the Trustees & Church Leadership.
