Marina Gail Carpenter, age 20 of Columbus, Ohio and formerly of Vandalia, Ohio, passed away after a short illness Monday, July 27, 2020 at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. She was born August 24, 1999 in Dayton, Ohio the daughter of Stephanie Carpenter Carroll and James "Matt" Carroll.
Marina was a loving daughter, grandaughter, and niece. She was a loyal friend, never judgemental and had a beautiful soul.
Marina attended Smith Jr. High School where she played basketball, soccer and softball. She was a 2017 graduate of Vandalia Butler High School where she played the flute and trombone in the marching band and the honors orchestra.
Marina was a fantastic artist. She enjoyed applying make-up, costuming, Harry Potter, the "Supernatural" series on television, and cooking. She like to spend her time gaming and watching anime, and frequented Comic-Con. Marina wrote poetry and loved to joke around, making everyone laugh with her intelligence and sarcasm. She also had a deep love for animals. Her goals were to become a 9-1-1 operator and a chef. She was currently working at Donatos.
Marina was preceded in death by her grandpa, James Edward Carroll; great-grandfather, Willie S. Looper; step great-grandfather, Bill Blair; great grandparents, Melvin E. and Barbara A. Carpenter.
Marina will be missed by her loving parents, Stephanie G. Carpenter Carroll and James "Matt" Carroll; fiance, Alex Spoon; grandparents, Philip and Carolyn Carpenter and Kimberly Blayney; great-grandmothers, Nellie (Looper) Blair and Clarice Carroll; aunt, Lisa and uncle, Patrick Prewitt who loved her more than anything in this world. She was their "baby girl"; uncles, Carson Krug, Dylan Carroll; aunt, Melissa Krug; great-aunt and uncle, Vernon and Judy Coffey; great-aunt, Lowana G. Looper (Ted Swartz); great-uncles, Bill Lummis and John Carroll and his son, Bryan Carroll; great-aunt, Carolyn (Jim) Depp; great-uncles, Andrew Carpenter and Jeff Carpenter; cousins, Vincent Prewitt, Marcus and Candice Valovalo and Tyler Lummis; best friends, Sean Wall, Jackie Thomas, Katie Freeman and Ronald Thomas; and a multitude of friends and co-workers.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, August 4, 2020 from 5 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7 p.m. at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton.
