Marilyn L. Dowell(Carney), Age 59 of Huber Heights passed away February 28, 2010 after a long and courageous battle against cancer. Born Marilyn L. Carney in Dayton OH she graduated Meadowdale HS and later Wright State University with an MBA. She leaves to mourn her husband George, son Robert in Washington D.C., and daughter Kathryn in Kettering. Also left to mourn are parents Kathleen and Robert Sheets, sisters Lora and Nancy both in Florida, brothers Robert in Utah and Bill in Fairborn, and numerous other relatives and friends including special friend Barbara Ellis. When not joyfully being mother to Robert and Kathryn and loving wife and companion to George, she performed the duties of a licensed CPA in business administration for numerous small companies, quite frequently in the field of tax accounting. She ran her own private tax accounting practice for many years and also taught evening business courses for Sinclair Community College at Wayne High School. Marilyn loved teaching and enjoyed reading, needlework and being with her family and her beloved black Lab, Rowen. Marilyn was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and was blessed to gain the close friendship of Peggy Sisson, a Stephens Minister, during her protracted illness. She was an avid volunteer in various children's programs at her children's school and at Westminster when her children were young. Later she got great joy helping Faith Presbyterian Church in Huber Heights prepare each year for its Christmas bazaar. Marilyn won the battle against cancer in 2001 only to have cancer reappear in a different form seven years later. She was very appreciative of the great care provided to her by her oncologists Dr Tarek Sabagh, his devoted staff, and the talented staff in the chemo facility at GSN, especially Stacey. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 2 PM in the sanctuary of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Dayton OH, The Reverend Nancy Hodgkins officiating and the Reverend John Neely, organist. The family asks that instead of flowers donations in her memory be made to either the Westminster Presbyterian Church Stephens Ministry program or The Hospice of Dayton on Wilmington Ave, Dayton.
