Marilyn C. Dobberstein (Merton), age 90 of Beavercreek, Ohio was called to heaven on October 9, 2021. She was born June 10, 1931 in Hamilton, Ohio daughter of the late Frederick and Ethel Merton.
She graduated from Fairview High School in 1949. She was married in February of 1955 to James Dobberstein. Marilyn and James had three children, Jama Smith, Denise Dobberstein, and Erik Dobberstein. They had one grandchild, Ryan Griffis. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church for 60 years and Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church for 3 years where she enjoyed the fellowship there. She was also a member of the Child Conservation League (CCL), and was the president of PTO. Marilyn worked for DP&L from 1949 to 1955. Then she began work at Fairbrook Elementary Schools beginning in 1965 where she worked there for 30 years and enjoyed her work immensely as a teachers aide. After retirement she volunteered in the clothing room at Project Blessing for 25 years. Marilyn's hobbies included painting, reading, gardening, sewing, and water aerobics classes. She was also a member of the Red Hats Society for 10 years.
In addition to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her son, Erik Dobberstein in 2008; husband, James Dobberstein in 2015; and her sister, Roberta Foster.
Marilyn is survived by her two daughters, Jama Smith and Denise Dobberstein; grandson, Ryan Griffis; and brother in law, Charles Foster; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 22, 2021 from 6-8pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432).
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 10am at Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church (2841 E. Dorothy Lane, Dayton Ohio, 45420). Burial to follow at Mt. Zion Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution can be made in Marilyn's honor to Hospice of Dayton.
