Marie Harrison

September 10, 1944 — May 3, 2016

Marie E. Harrison, age 71, of Dayton Ohio, formerly of Bradenton, Florida, passed away after a long and brave battle with cancer. She was born September 10, 1944 in Potsdam, NY, the fourth of eleven children to Francis and Grace Durand.

As a child, Marie always took the initiative around the house and with her siblings no matter what the situation. As an adult, she was dedicated to raising her only son Michael. She was employed as a bookkeeper in a number of Utica, NY area businesses. She was later employed with the North Syracuse School District until her retirement and eventual move to Florida. She enjoyed traveling and toured the United States extensively in her retirement years with the love of her life, Leonard. Later in life, she enjoyed swimming, crocheting, and knitting. Marie was an avid reader and enjoyed socializing with friends and neighbors.

Marie was predeceased in death by her first husband, Lawrence M. Bass, and second husband, Leonard S. Harrison, as well as siblings, Pauline, Charles, Robert, Francis, Maude, and Tina Durand.

Marie is survived by her only son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Karen Bass of Dayton, OH; three grandchildren, Nicholas Bass (Ashlee) of Orange, MA, Christopher Bass of Warwick, RI, and Matthew Bass of Crowne Point, IN; two great grandchildren, Landon and Lexi Bass of Orange, MA (with a third due in Aug); four siblings, Genevieve Mills (Sydney) of Saugerties, NY, Lisa Durand (Michael) of Potsdam, NY, Christopher (Fay) Durand of Potsdam, NY and Donald Durand of California. She is also survived by her step-children Jackie Harrison of FL and Charles Harrison of NY. Marie also had many friends from all over the country but wished to separately acknowledge dear friends Tony and Ursula Maletto, Bill Eggenhofer, Nancy Gustafson and Jack Botelho and Jerry Poisson all of Bradenton, FL.

Marie has requested no formal services be planned, and will be interred at a later date at Spring Forest Cemetery in Binghamton, NY. The family wishes to thank the doctors and specialists for their superb care during her last few months, especially the staff of Wright-Patterson AFB Medical Center and Hospice of Dayton, OH. If you wish, donations may be made to your local Hospice or Hospice of Dayton in her name and remembrance.
