Bockhorst, Margaret “June” Kinsler, 99 passed away peacefully in the afternoon of Sunday, August 11, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family near and far at home where she lived in Ohio with her grandson, Kenny and 2 great-grandsons, Thomas and Lucas. Born June 13, 1925 in Marysville, Ohio; appropriately, so close to Flag Day…she loved celebrating this day and every with her patriotic decorations. She was known to many as June, but her favorite names were Mom, Granny and Grandma June.
Maragret passionately dedicated herself to her teaching career, which spanned over four decades of student-driven teaching methods, volunteer tutoring, creation of afterschool programs, serving as President of the School Board, and many other small acts of kindness to ensure no child felt unseen, or misunderstood.
Margaret was a longtime member and at one time the Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, her life was dedicated to charity, truth and loving kindness as she lifted others up through service in her community. She was an avid member of The Lion’s Club International, and partnered with them to improve the health, wellbeing and to support those in need. She was actively involved in her Church whether worshipping or serving in some capacity. She spent many countless hours either through service, a friendly chat or a meal with dear friends.
One of many known as “Rosie the Riveter”, she worked in factories during World War II while the soldiers were away defending our Country and helped to build bombsights to aid in the accuracy of our Airforce’s bombers. Continuing her duty to our Country, she enjoyed working at the Board of Elections where she assisted those in nursing homes and hospitals to be able to participate in our election processes.
She also spent many years living in Florida. She loved working during Spring Training for the Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin directing cars where to park. She did this to honor her brother who had served in World War II and whose VFW post benefits from the parking during Spring Training. She made many friends and was thankful to be able to honor family through service. Before she became a full-time Florida resident, she would plan her time in the state around the Spring Training parking schedule so she could volunteer.
June loved life and to know her was to love her! She was a kind, giving, selfless woman, whom we were all lucky to know and love. She is preceded in death by her loving and caring husband, John Bockhorst who she will now dance with again; son, Donald E. “Butch” Kinsler who she will sing with once again; parents who she respected and loved dearly; and eight brothers and sisters who she was so very proud to call siblings. She is survived by 3 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and countless friends.
Her wish was consummately for peace. The best way to memorialize June is to live by the golden rule and volunteer in any way you may be able to in your community, school, church or even just a friend in need, it makes a difference.
